Sterilizations (Neutering/Desexing)
Sterilization is an operation to remove the reproductive organs of your pet. For the female, this means removing her ovaries and uterus, rendering her incapable of falling pregnant. For the male, the testicles are removed, rendering him incapable of impregnating the female. There are also other medical benefits of sterilization.
Advantages of Sterilization
1) For the Female—sterilization greatly reduces the risks or prevents the development of breast cancer (mammary cancer), uterine/womb infections ( pyometra) and ovarian or uterine cancers. Sterilization of female cats also prevents the behavior of incessant vocalizing or calling when they are on heat.
2) For the Male—Medically, sterilizing male dogs and cats ( castration) can prevent enlargement of the prostate gland later in life, and reduce the risks of getting testicular cancers and abscesses. Castration can also reduce aggression in testosterone-related aggression, reduce urine spraying and urine marking behaviours, as well as humping behavior that can be embarrassing for many owners.
